Medieval Bruce Sword with scabbard

This sword carries the name of the famous Scottish warrior, Robert I of Scotland (1274-1329). In 1314, after years of fighting, King Robert defeated the army of Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn. This battle is considered decisive, as it led to the restoration of Scottish independence. Robert Bruce is one of the most famous people in Scotland, along with the famous William Wallace.

This very decorative single handle has a double-edged EN45 spring steel blade with a long and wide groove. The cutting edges are not sharpened. The continuous blade tang is screwed to the handle. The hilt has a slightly downward curved quillons and a strong octagonal pommel, type I1 Oakeshott, which was very popular especially in the 14th century. The handle section is made of wood, very elaborately this part is wrapped with brown braided leather strap.

The guard and pommel were both made of solid brass. These were decorated with bright red colored enamel. The pommel carries a so-called lion rampant. A lion in an upright position with raised front paws, ready to attack. This depiction is reminiscent of the coat of arms of King Robert I of Scotland. A chimney red lion on a yellow background
