Celtic leather belt, 170 cm
Â
The Celts were a series of tribes that arose in Central Europe during the Iron Age. They later spread throughout Europe, as far as the Balkan Peninsula and Ireland. Until about 275 BC, they inhabited a large part of these mentioned areas. Later, these areas were conquered and occupied by the Romans and Germanic tribes, so the Celts retreated mainly to the British Isles and Ireland.
The Celts developed numerous patterns that we know today as "knot patterns". They used these on all sorts of everyday objects such as pottery, jewelry, textiles, as well as weapons. The Celtic style is particularly characterized by intertwined animal creatures, spiral shapes, and braided & knot motifs.
This belt is made of 3mm thick, sturdy cowhide leather and features a brass buckle with an antique finish. The buckle is riveted to the leather using brass rivets.
The belt is embossed with ornamental knot patterns in Celtic style and has 18 perforations, which are reinforced by means of brass eyelets. So, the belt can be individually adjusted to your own circumference (suitable for a waist circumference between about 70 and 120 cm).
The belt buckle is also decorated with Celtic patterns. In the pattern there are two snakes or dragons facing each other in the knot pattern, which is very classic for the time of the Celts.
