This chainmail leg protection consists of 2 types of rings. One row was made of riveted flat rings, the next of punched flat rings.
Also in the Middle Ages chain skirts, chain shirts etc. were made in this way, because it was not and still is not so time-consuming.
This made it possible then as now to use rings made of steel with a thickness of only 1mm (0.04 inches) without losing their strength. Through this a weight reduction of 30-35% is achieved.

They can be fastened individually, e.g. with wire, nests or leather cords and/or with leather straps.
Another fastening option is to sew them onto existing (leather) trousers.

Especially in the late Middle Ages, chainmail leg protection were used as additional protection under plate armour, so that exposed areas were protected.

These chainmail leg protection are therefore ideal for depicting the late Middle Ages.
