This chainmail leg protection was made from unriveted round rings. The surface of the rings was burnished, which is why they offer a certain protection against rust. The weave is 4 in 1.
They can be fastened individually, e.g. with wire, nests or leather cords and/or with leather straps.
Another way of attaching them is to sew them onto existing (leather) trousers.

Especially in the late Middle Ages, chainmail leg protection were used as additional protection under plate armour, so that exposed areas were protected.
