This chainmail aventail consists of 2 types of rings. One row was worked from riveted rings (triangular rivets), the next from punched rings. Riveting by means of wedge rivets did not appear until the late Middle Ages, which is why it is suitable for depicting the late Middle Ages.
Chain skirts, chain mail shirts etc. were also made in this way in the Middle Ages, as it was and still is not as time-consuming and costly.

In the Middle Ages, chainmail aventail was attached to helmets such as nose helmets or, above all, to late medieval pelvic caps. They were worn as additional neck and shoulder protection.

The rim was made of thick cowhide, which was sewn to the chain mail. The fastening holes for the helmet must be made by the customer himself.
