Deluxe version of wood and brass

This decorative reconstruction of a late medieval or renaissance so-called Kugelschnepper (also known as Kugelschnäpper, Balester, Vogelschnepper or Ball Crossbow) features a leather-bound wooden bow and wooden stock. The lock, trigger and all other fittings are made of brass. This material, as well as the decorations on the lock and on the ship (sight fork), give this luxury version a nobler look, more appropriate to the higher social classes.

A lighter, more portable offshoot of the crossbow, the Schnepper was easier to handle and designed primarily for hunting. Here, instead of bolts, smaller ammunition such as clay balls (so-called shot), stones and later lead bullets were used. Thus, the balester was ideal for bird and small game hunting. To cock it, the double string was pulled back with both hands until the back of the ball pocket could be hooked into the hook from the trigger lock. It was then simply enough to pull the trigger to release the hook and propel the bullet previously placed in the pocket.

This crossbow is neither suitable for effective shooting training nor for exhibition combat and is designed exclusively as a beautiful addition to a historical weapons collection, as decoration or as a medieval accessory. In any case, it is not a toy and intended for adults only! We would also like to point out that the legal situation regarding crossbows in general and crossbow hunting in particular is very inconsistent internationally. According to the respective national law, there are numerous regulations that differ from each other. In Germany, bow and crossbow hunting is prohibited.
