Sgian Dubh Knife

The so-called Sgian Dubh has been part of the Highland Scots' kilt equipment since the 18th century. The name "Sgian Dubh" is Gaelic and means "black dagger", although it is not clear what the "black" in its name stands for. It is thought to be less about the colour of the handle and more about the concealment of the knife. The Disarming Act made it illegal for Scots to carry weapons, so these knives were always carried concealed (in the right stocking).

This replica is a small, hand-forged knife with an elaborately decorated wooden handle. The blade is unsharpened and blunt on delivery. A matching knife sheath made of genuine leather is included. The leather sheath has a belt loop for easy attachment to the belt.
