Small Viking Sax, bone handle in Borre style, incl. scabbard

This small utility knife from the Viking Age, also known as a "broken back Sax" due to its distinctive blade shape, features a hand-forged carbon steel blade with a strong back. The polished bone handle is carefully designed on both sides with Norse engravings in the Borre style (ca. 850-950 AD) and closes securely to the blade thanks to a brass ferrule. The end of the handle is adorned with a brass cap with a steel eyelet surrounded by a brass ring. This feature provides a convenient way to loop in straps for easy transport or to quickly pull out the knife (straps not included).

The small Viking Sax is equipped with a strong, intricately designed scabbard made of vegetable tanned leather with an embossed braided pattern. The look of the scabbard is finished off with brass rivets and two serpentine suspension rings, as well as bone reinforcement plates.

This Viking knife is fully functional, but has a dull edge. If one wishes to use the blade on a regular basis, it will need to be sharpened accordingly. However, it should be noted that this item is mainly for collection and decoration purposes - the tip is not rounded and therefore not suitable for show fighting!

In addition, each Viking sax is handmade - including the embellishments - which means that each scabbard and handle is unique. For these reasons, the pictures shown here serve mainly as an exemplary view.

The steel used here is not stainless and may eventually show slight signs of corrosion. Therefore, we recommend that you take the time to care for the blade regularly - with a product such as Ballistol, a universal oil specially designed for the care of all types of steelware.
