The Hobbit - Orcrist, the sword of Thorin Oakenshield
An original sword replica of the King of Erebor, from The Hobbit, by United Cutlery.
In the third age of Middle-earth, Thorin Oakenshield and his fellowship of dwarves enter a troll cave in Rhûdaur and find an ancient Elven blade called Orcrist (=Orc-splitter), once created by the High Elves of the West in Gondolin. Thorin claims Orcrist for himself because he wants to use it against orcs, as he wants to split orcs with it again. He wields the sword on his journey to Erebor against many orcs and goblins of the Misty Mountains. The orcs call it biter and detest it.
Orcrist is a double-edged sword with one side curved like a leaf and the other side straight. The unique design of the blade makes it easy to cleave orcs and goblins. On the pommel of the sword is an emblem of the coat of arms of Ecthelion, the Lord of the Well. The hilt is formed from a dragon's tooth. It is not yet known when exactly this tooth was added to the sword (before the battle of the first age or together with the inscription after the fall of Gondolin).
The inscriptions on the sword in elvish runes:
On the parry bar is the name Orcrist (= Orc-splitter).
On both sides of the blade is written The Serpent's Tooth (= Dragon's Tooth).
