Viking oval brooch from Morberg in jelling style
This beautiful oval brooch was made after an original from the 10th century, which was made in Morberg in southern Norway. It was cast in bronze and polished in a complex way.
In the Viking Age, women wore them in pairs on the front side below the shoulders and used to fasten the dress and apron together.
On the back there is a sturdy needle, which also carries thicker fabrics.
The brooches were made in the typical jelling style. Its period of distribution reaches from the beginning of the 10th century to about 975. Typical for this style are figures like people and animals, plant representations like tendrils and leaves, as well as geometric figures like circles, triskels, spirals etc.
