Viking dress with hand embroidery – "Idun" women’s dress
The Idun Viking dress is a long women’s dress made from woven cotton, combining historical aesthetics with everyday comfort. The V-neck and the flowing, slightly flared silhouette add a feminine touch, whilst the hand embroidery on the neckline, cuffs and hem gives the garment its distinctive character.
Archaeological finds from Scandinavia show that embroidered decorations on garments in the Early Middle Ages were not merely decorative – they often had symbolic meaning and signified status or affiliation. The Idun dress draws on this tradition and translates it into a wearable garment for the medieval market, LARP events or re-enactment camps. The name Idun is inspired by the Norse goddess of renewal, which gives the dress an added thematic depth.
The regular fit makes the dress comfortable to wear throughout a long day at the market. Pair it with a Viking belt, a medieval bodice or a cloak to complete the outfit. The Idun also cuts a fine figure on stage or in photo shoots.
