About Birka Vikingaveckor
Experience Viking life at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Birka
During Birka Viking Weeks from 9 to 30 July 2026, Sweden’s foremost Viking site comes to life. On the island of Björkö in Lake Mälaren, where the town of Birka once flourished as Scandinavia’s most important trading centre between 750 and 975 AD, Birka Viking Town opens its gates to a re-enacted Viking life.
During these three weeks, the Viking town is populated by battling warriors, blacksmiths, weavers, potters and merchants in historical costumes who engage with visitors and tell them about their lives. A vibrant Viking market with authentic products – metalwork, leather, glass beads, fabrics and food – offers visitors a unique shopping experience from another era. Guided tours of archaeological excavations and burial grounds where history really comes to life. Open daily 11:00–16:00.
Birka can be reached by boat from Stockholm (Strömkajen) or from Ekerö. Parking on the mainland.
Address: Björkö, 17893 Ekerö.
