About L Medieval Days of Montiel

50 years re-enacting the Battle of Montiel at the site where Pedro I died

From 11 to 13 April 2026, the town of Montiel in Castile-La Mancha will celebrate its 50th anniversary of the Medieval Festival. This festival, one of the oldest in Spain, recreates the historic Battle of Montiel in 1369, in which Henry II of Trastámara overthrew and killed his half-brother Pedro I of Castile, changing the course of Spanish history forever.

The main square of Montiel, surrounded by the ruins of the castle that witnessed that fateful encounter, will host a full programme of events over three days: a re-enactment of the battle with hundreds of participants in period costume, a medieval craft market, acrobatics and juggling shows, archery and crossbow exhibitions, and a general atmosphere that transports visitors back to 14th-century Castile. The 50th anniversary promises to be a particularly emotional celebration.

Free admission to the markets and entertainment. Information on opening hours on the municipal website.

Address: Plaza Mayor de Montiel, 13440 Montiel.
