About Knights' festival at the ruins of Kirchschlag Castle
Medieval spectacle at the castle ruins featuring archery and a fire show
On 25 and 26 July 2026, the picturesque Kirchschlag castle ruins in the Bucklige Welt region of Lower Austria will come alive with medieval festivities. The Knights’ Festival at the Kirchschlag castle ruins is one of the most popular castle festivals in southern Lower Austria and attracts visitors from across the region and the Vienna area every year.
Across the sprawling castle ruins – one of the largest preserved castle complexes in southern Lower Austria – re-enactment groups will showcase historical camp life and crafts. The programme includes jousting displays, archery sessions where visitors can have a go themselves, a medieval market featuring craftspeople, leather goods and specialities, as well as musical performances on historical instruments. On Saturday evening, the festival concludes with a spectacular fire show, during which the ruins are bathed in a mesmerising glow.
Current admission prices are available on the municipality’s official website. Open all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
