About Battle of Hastings Reenactment
Norman knights and Saxon warriors clash at Battle Abbey – 960 years on
On 10–10 to 11 October 2026, the town of Battle in East Sussex returns to the most momentous date in English history at the Battle of Hastings Reenactment. English Heritage’s annual re-enactment at Battle Abbey – built by William the Conqueror on the very spot where King Harold fell on 14 October 1066 – is one of the most atmospheric and historically significant historical events in England.
Hundreds of costumed re-enactors portraying Norman knights, Saxon huscarls, archers and infantry take to the battlefield in a dramatic recreation of the Norman Conquest that changed England forever. In addition to the battle itself, the event features armoured combat demonstrations, archery competitions, living history encampments, and a medieval market offering period crafts and food. Expert guides and interpreters provide historical context throughout the weekend. The ruins of Battle Abbey and the original battlefield provide an unparalleled sense of historical gravitas.
Open Saturday and Sunday, 10:00–17:00.
