The Marche region steps back in time with the Offagna Medieval Festivals, the event that transforms this Marche village into a vivid snapshot of medieval life. From 20 to 27 July 2026, the Rocca di Offagna welcomes visitors hungry for history, entertainment and authentic traditions. This annual event is not merely a re-enactment: it represents a meticulous study of how the inhabitants of the Middle Ages lived, traded and entertained themselves.
In the fortress courtyard, artisans demonstrate ancient crafts. You will see blacksmiths at work in front of their forges, potters at the wheel, and spinners busy with their spindles. Every movement follows historically documented techniques, transforming the square into a living workshop. Visitors are not passive spectators: they can touch the materials, ask questions and learn the secrets of medieval crafts.
Theatrical performances fill the evenings, with re-enactments of historical events and scenes from daily life. Musicians play instruments faithful to the periods depicted, creating atmospheres that transport you back in time. Food plays a central role: the taverns serve dishes recreated according to medieval recipes, allowing visitors to understand, even through their palates, how their ancestors ate.
The fortress itself takes centre stage. Its walls tell stories of noble families, political conflicts and life within the fortifications. During the festivities, expert guides lead tours that link the physical spaces to the historical events that took place there. There is no shortage of small-scale jousting tournaments and re-enactments of duels. Although not on the same large scale as in other events, these performances maintain high standards of safety and authenticity. The combat displays are choreographed by experts in historical combat who are familiar with the movements actually used in past centuries.
