About Spring market Viking Museum Haithabu
Spring Market at the Viking Museum Haithabu 2026 – Viking life at Easter in Schleswig-Holstein
When spring awakens over Haddebyer Noor, life also returns to the historic Viking settlement. From 3 to 6 April 2026, the Viking Museum Haithabu in Busdorf, Schleswig-Holstein, invites you to its traditional spring market. Just in time for the Easter weekend, the UNESCO World Heritage Site will be transformed into a lively trading centre, just as it was 1,000 years ago.
One of Germany's most important archaeological museums
The Viking Museum Haithabu is considered one of Germany's most important archaeological museums. UNESCO has designated the Viking trading centre, together with the Danevirke border fortification, a World Heritage Site. Seven reconstructed Viking houses stand on the historic site, impressively demonstrating how people lived in the early Middle Ages at this central hub of the Viking world.
Trade and crafts as they were 1,000 years ago
The spring market attracts over a hundred traders, craftsmen and market participants from Germany and neighbouring countries. They present their wares, allow visitors to watch them at work and give visitors a lively insight into the hustle and bustle of Viking life in Haithabu. In previous years, the spring market attracted around 14,500 visitors.
Opening hours and admission
The spring market is open from Friday to Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is included in the regular museum admission price. From the museum car park on Haddebyer Chaussee (B76), it is about a 20-minute walk to the Viking houses.
How to get there
The Viking Museum Haithabu is located on Haddebyer Chaussee, 24866 Busdorf, in the district of Schleswig-Flensburg. It can be reached by car or by train to Schleswig.
