About Hohensalzburg Fortress Medieval Festival
Medieval Spectacle at Hohensalzburg Fortress
On 29 and 30 August 2026, the Medieval Festival will take place at the world-famous Hohensalzburg Fortress. Hohensalzburg Fortress, built from 1077 onwards and one of the largest and best-preserved medieval castle complexes in Central Europe, towers on the Mönchsberg high above the UNESCO World Heritage city of Salzburg and provides a unique backdrop for this festival.
The two-day programme combines historical re-enactment with popular entertainment: medieval crafts in open workshops featuring blacksmiths, goldsmiths and weavers; sword-and-shield combat displays in the fortress courtyards; a children’s programme with archery and a knighting course; and historical music performed by minstrels and minstrel bands. The unique fortress atmosphere, with panoramic views of Salzburg’s old town and the surrounding Alps, makes a visit an unforgettable experience.
Admission is included in the price of entry to the fortress; current rates are available on the official website. Open all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
