MPS Luhmühlen – Fette Heide – A Spectacular Event in the Lüneburg Heath
Over the weekend of 4–6 September, the Westergellerser Heide (part of the famous Lüneburg Heath) will host a major MPS spectacle. This is no ordinary event – it is MPS Luhmühlen, one of the largest and most renowned medieval spectacles in northern Germany.
The Lüneburg Heath is a characteristic landscape in Lower Saxony – open heathland with moors, birch trees and juniper bushes, blooming purple in autumn. The Westergellerser Heide 1 is a well-known venue, regularly used for large festivals. The atmosphere is special – less urban, more in tune with nature.
The MPS Luhmühlen is legendary among medieval enthusiasts. The organisers invest in high-quality shows, large stages, and an audience that craves authentic medieval theatre. The spectacle offers continuity and class.
Opening hours: Saturday 11:00–24:00, Sunday 11:00–19:00. This is standard for a spectacle of this size – Saturday is the main day.
Admission prices: Saturday – children under 7 free, 7–14 years €14, 15 years and over €28. Sunday is cheaper: 7–14 years €12, 15 years and over €24. The Sunday prices are much more family-friendly.
The programme: Grand jousting tournament with multiple shows, medieval market with arts and crafts, live music and theatre, craft demonstrations, food and drink, possibly a fire show and night-time dancing on Saturday.
Visitor tip: The heathland is beautiful in September – you can combine enjoying nature with the spectacle. First-time visitors should plan to go on Saturday. Those who have been before already know the best time to go.
Food and drink: A wide range on offer. The heathland setting means there are plenty of fire pits and campfire food alongside modern cuisine.
Getting there: Westergellersen is about 40 km east of Bremen and about 50 km north of Hanover. A car is required.
Verdict: A top-class spectacle in a magnificent natural setting – a must for true fans.
