Walpurgis Schierke am Brocken 2026 – Three days of medieval magic in the Harz Mountains
From 30 April to 2 May 2026, Schierke am Brocken in Saxony-Anhalt will celebrate the legendary Walpurgis Night with a three-day medieval festival. In the spa gardens of this charming Harz village at the foot of the Brocken, visitors can expect a unique spectacle of witch dances, medieval traditions and folklore.
Schierke – witch village on the Brocken
Schierke is located at an altitude of around 600 metres in the middle of the Harz National Park, directly below the legendary Brocken summit. For centuries, Walpurgis Night has been associated with the Brocken and the Harz Mountains – according to legend, this is where the witches gather for their great dance.
Three-day programme
The festival spans three themed days: 30 April is Walpurgis Night itself, with witch dancing and a fire show. 1 May is Medieval and Family Day, with jousting, crafts and children's attractions. On 2 May, the festival ends with a folk day. All three days feature a medieval market, music, juggling and culinary delicacies.
Opening hours and admission
The festival is open on all three days from 11 a.m. to midnight. Admission is free.
