About The Vikings are coming! Saalburg-Ebersdorf

The Vikings are coming! Saalburg-Ebersdorf 2026 – Viking spectacle on the Thuringian Sea

The Vikings will land with their ships on the shores of the Bleilochtalsperre, Germany's largest reservoir: on 11 and 12 April 2026, the grounds of the Erlebniswerft in Saalburg-Ebersdorf, Thuringia, will be transformed into a lively Viking village with trade, crafts and wild battles.

Spectacular backdrop at the reservoir

Saalburg-Ebersdorf is located where the Thuringian Forest, Franconian Forest and Ore Mountains enclose the upper Saale region. The state-recognised resort has had town rights since 1313 and, with its breathtaking reservoir landscape, offers a unique backdrop for the Viking spectacle. The organiser, Suendenfrei, is staging the festival right by the water.

Programme and attractions

Around 50 stalls invite you to take a stroll into the past. Several times a day, the Vikings engage in spectacular show fights. Courageous visitors can take a short trip on the Viking ships on the reservoir free of charge under the supervision of the Vikings. Craftsmen, traders, musicians and jugglers ensure a lively market atmosphere.

Opening hours and admission

The Viking Festival is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission: £12 for adults, £10 for those in historical costume, £6 for children. Families only pay for the first child.
