About Archeon Midsummer Fair
Archeon Midsummer Fair
Every year, Archeon Museum Park in Alphen aan den Rijn is transformed into a living medieval village for the Midsummer Fair, held from 4 to 5 July. This event brings the trade, crafts and everyday culture of the Middle Ages to life in a particularly authentic way.
Archeon specialises in recreating life from various periods, ranging from prehistory to the Middle Ages. During the Midsummer Fair, this is expanded to include hundreds of participants practising their crafts and offering their wares. The park itself already features reconstructions of historical structures, creating a unique atmosphere.
The traders present products that would have been made during the Middle Ages – from textiles to metal, from ceramics to food. Many of these products are literally made before your very eyes, demonstrating the skill and patience of the craftsmen.
Live demonstrations of martial arts, horse riding and traditional games offer visitors the chance to see what medieval life was like in practice. Many participants wear authentic clothing and use appropriate tools and weapons from the period.
The park is located in South Holland and attracts visitors from all over the Netherlands. The site near Alphen aan den Rijn is easily accessible and the event is supported by professional organisation and expertise. Families find a combination of education and entertainment here, making it a popular destination for anyone interested in medieval life and crafts.
