About Cassel autumn freedom
Kassel Autumn Festival 2026
The Kassel Autumn Festival will take place from 29 October to 1 November 2026 in Kassel city centre. This four-day medieval event uses the historic city centre as the setting for a spectacular show.
Kassel is a city steeped in history in Hesse, known as the ‘Fairytale City’ and the ‘Documentary City’. The city centre, particularly Königsplatz (address: Königsplatz 59), provides a central location for the event.
Opening hours are from 11 am to 6 pm daily. This allows day visitors to attend after work or at the weekend.
The Casseler Herbst-Freyheit features medieval craft markets, historical performances and culinary delights. The term “Freyheit” refers to the concept of freedom in the Middle Ages and the importance of local markets and trading zones.
Kassel is easily accessible by car, train or plane and offers numerous accommodation options and other attractions such as Wilhelmshöhe Palace, Documenta and various museums.
The event is family-friendly and offers both entertainment and educational content about the Middle Ages and craftsmanship.
