About Castro Marim Medieval Festival

Castro Marim Medieval Festival 2026

The Castro Marim Medieval Festival will take place from 26 to 30 August 2026, using the Castelo de Castro Marim as its atmospheric backdrop. The 12th-century castle overlooks the Ria Formosa wetlands and offers a unique setting for medieval events. Exact opening times and admission prices are yet to be announced.

Castro Marim is situated in the Faro region in the far south-east of Portugal. For centuries, the fortress served as a border post and protection against piracy. Today, it is a magnet for visitors exploring Portugal’s southern and eastern coasts. The five-day festival uses the historic buildings as a base for immersive medieval experiences.

The surrounding area is characterised by nature reserves and birdwatching spots. A visit can therefore combine culture and nature. The Ria Formosa, with its lagoons and islands, is a habitat for numerous bird species. Visitors interested in ornithology or nature conservation will find plenty to explore in the region beyond the festival programme.
