About Festival Médiéval de Sedan

A timeless weekend in the heart of the Middle Ages

On 16 and 17 May 2026, Sedan Castle – considered the largest castle in Europe with its 35,000 m² and walls up to 7 metres thick – opens its doors for the 29th edition of the Sedan Medieval Festival. This unmissable event in the Ardennes and the Grand Est region attracts over 20,000 visitors every year, who come to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of chivalrous times.

For two days, the moat, courtyards and ramparts of the castle are transformed into a bustling medieval town. Troubadours, musicians, street theatre, fire-eaters and people strolling about in period costume ensure a total immersion. Fans of historical re-enactment can explore authentic medieval encampments where blacksmiths, weavers and calligraphers bring the crafts of yesteryear back to life.

The large medieval market brings together over 100 artisans and stallholders from all over France and beyond, offering period jewellery, costumes, wooden toys and culinary specialities. Families will particularly enjoy the children’s workshops: archery, crossbow shooting and fencing are on the programme for young apprentice knights.

The highlight of the weekend takes place on Saturday evening with a grand historical procession through the castle, followed by a spectacular fireworks display in the moat – a breathtaking experience to enjoy with family or friends.

Opening hours: Saturday from 10.00 am to midnight, Sunday from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm.
Prices at the gate: adults from €11, children from €5 – free for under-8s.
Address: Château fort de Sedan, 08200 Sedan.
