About Waldeck Castle Medieval Fairytale Market
Medieval Fairy Tale Market at Waldeck Castle 2026 – Fairytale learning high above Lake Edersee
Under the motto "Fairytale learning – experiencing knowledge through play", the historic Waldeck Castle will be transformed into a living fairytale world on 11 and 12 April 2026. High above Lake Eder in Waldeck, Hesse, families and children can look forward to an interactive fairytale market that combines education, culture and imagination.
800 years of history as a backdrop
Waldeck Castle, first mentioned in documents in 1120, is perched on a steep rocky hill on the northern shore of Lake Eder. Once the residence of the Counts of Waldeck, later a prison and women's prison, the mighty hilltop castle now houses a hotel, a museum and a restaurant. The viewing terrace offers a breathtaking view over Lake Eder and the Kellerwald National Park.
Interactive fairy tale market
Visitors encounter well-known characters from the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm – not as spectators, but as active participants. Each station is dedicated to a well-known story: from Hansel and Gretel to Snow White to the Bremen Town Musicians. Children solve tasks, take tests and help to preserve the magic of the fairy tale world. Trained game leaders accompany the educational experience programme.
Opening hours and admission
The Fairy Tale Market is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 9 pm. Admission: £5 for adults, free for children under 1.20 m.
