About Médié-Nages - Nages Medieval Festival
Médié-Nages – Nages Medieval Festival
On 27 and 28 June 2026, the village of Nages in the Tarn will host its annual medieval festival, attracting history enthusiasts and families keen to enjoy an immersive experience. This event completely transforms the townscape into an authentic historical setting.
Nages, a former Benedictine priory, revives its traditions of hospitality and community life during this weekend. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of markets set up in the castle courtyards, with vendors, acrobats and troubadours creating the characteristic bustle of medieval fairs.
Re-enactments of court scenes demonstrate how seigneurial justice was administered, complete with its rituals and key figures. The warriors’ battles, staged using historically verified techniques, captivate spectators with their intensity and realism.
The festival’s artisans offer lengthy and detailed demonstrations: metal forging, stone carving and costume-making. Visitors can try their hand at certain activities under supervision, gaining a hands-on understanding of medieval crafts.
Music and the performing arts provide a constant atmosphere of liveliness throughout the village. Minstrels sing of the knights’ exploits, whilst dancers perform branles and other dances of the period. The local cuisine is tailored to the theme, offering dishes inspired by historical recipes without compromising on modern food safety standards.
