About Les Médiévales de Chinon

Two days of chivalry at France’s largest medieval fortress

From 2 to 4 August 2026, the Royal Fortress of Chinon will be transported back to the Middle Ages for the Médiévales de Chinon festival. Perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Vienne, this fortress – one of the largest in France – has witnessed decisive moments in French history, notably the meeting between Joan of Arc and King Charles VII in 1429.

For three days, knights in armour, archers, craftsmen and troubadours take over the curtain walls and keep. The programme includes sword-fighting demonstrations, jousting tournaments, falconry displays and workshops for children. The medieval craft markets offer jewellery, leather goods, ceramics and local produce. Evenings are enlivened by concerts of early music and fire shows on the illuminated ramparts.

Organised by the Fondation du Patrimoine and the Forteresse de Chinon, Les Médiévales is one of the most popular historical events in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The festival runs for three days with daytime activities.

Prices: Adults €15, concessions €13, free for under-7s.
Address: 4 Rue du Château, Forteresse Royale de Chinon, 37500 Chinon.
