About Médiévales du Château de Lichtenberg
Ten days of medieval immersion in Northern Alsace
From 3 to 12 July 2026, Lichtenberg Castle in the Northern Vosges (Alsace) opens its doors for its Medieval Festival, a revamped event spanning ten full days. This fortress, a mosaic of history, proudly overlooks the forest and offers a dream setting for a journey back to the Middle Ages.
On the programme: equestrian and pyrotechnic displays, jousting tournaments, horse-drawn processions through the village, presentations of birds of prey and falconry, medieval music, period dances and street entertainment featuring jugglers and fire-eaters. A craft market hosts around twenty artisans offering wooden objects, jewellery, pottery, wrought leather and medieval culinary specialities (nougat, spices, hypocras). Demonstrations of stained glass and stone carving round off the educational programme for young and old alike.
The opening Friday evening is reserved for a night-time fire show by the Wulkan Company, with two performances at sunset – a unique experience against the backdrop of the illuminated fortifications. A medieval bar serves period beverages, including hypocras and ‘1206’ beer, brewed especially for the castle.
Free shuttle buses run between the car parks at the village entrance and the castle (a 10-minute walk). Online booking is strongly recommended.
