Médiévales Montferrand – the free festival in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand
On 23 and 24 May 2026, the historic district of Montferrand in Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) will celebrate the 31st edition of Médiévales Montferrand. Free entry, a family-friendly atmosphere and historical authenticity are the hallmarks of this event, which brings the listed streets of Old Montferrand to life every year; this remarkably well-preserved medieval town has been a listed site since 1981.
From 10am to 6pm on both days, craftspeople, musicians, troubadours, jugglers and historical re-enactment groups take to the market alleys and the neighbourhood squares. Demonstrations of traditional crafts and activities for children round off the programme. The Renaissance and Gothic architecture of Montferrand – with its mansions built from Volvic stone – provides a unique architectural setting for this journey back to the Auvergne Middle Ages.
