A grand Templar re-enactment at the foot of the Castle of the Templars in Ponferrada
From 2 to 5 July 2026, the town of Ponferrada in El Bierzo, León, will celebrate its Templar Night, one of the most spectacular and original historical events in Castile and León. The Castle of the Templars, built by the Order of the Temple in the 12th century on the site of a Roman fortress and one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Spain, provides the unique and unrivalled setting for this grand historical re-enactment.
The Templar Night transports visitors back to 14th-century Ponferrada with a programme that combines grandeur and authenticity: a grand procession featuring over 500 participants in Templar, Crusader and medieval costumes; a medieval market with craftsmen, spice merchants and blacksmiths at the foot of the fortress; and evening shows featuring fire displays, medieval music and historical theatre beneath the castle’s illuminated walls. Ponferrada’s Templar Nights have a well-deserved reputation as one of the best historical night-time spectacles in Spain.
