Reichsburg Cochem is one of the most famous castles in the Rhine Valley – it towers above the town of Cochem, offering views across the river and the vineyards. On 1 and 2 August 2026, the knights’ tournament will take place there, one of the castle’s most time-honoured events. The setting is spectacular: castle walls, the Rhine Valley, and spectators on the steps and balconies.
Reichsburg Cochem, Schlossstraße 36, 56812 Cochem – that is the exact address. The castle is accessible via staircases, with several inner courtyards and viewing platforms, ideal for spectators.
Opening hours: Saturday 10 am–7 pm, Sunday 10 am–6 pm. This is a full-day event featuring several tournaments.
Admission: Adults €12, children (aged 4–17) €6, families (2 adults with 2–5 children) €33, costumed visitors €9. This pricing structure is fair and supports families as well as those in costume.
The tournament itself: Knights in full armour fight with lances, swords and shields. The battles are dramatic and loud – steel clashes against steel, horses neigh, the crowd cheers. The battles are choreographed for safety, but appear authentic.
The castle forms part of the setting – the fighting takes place beneath the castle walls, overlooking the Rhine Valley. This is no modern arena, but a genuine place steeped in history. The atmosphere is electrifying.
