Knights and Dragons Spectacle Kranichfeld 2026 – Easter walk into the Middle Ages at Niederburg Castle in Thuringia
When the fire-breathing dragon Fangdorn flies through the skies above Niederburg Castle and knights cross swords, it's that time of year again: from 4 to 6 April 2026, Niederburg Castle in Kranichfeld, Thuringia, invites you to its popular Knights and Dragons Spectacle. An Easter walk into the Middle Ages for the whole family.
The town of two castles as a medieval backdrop
Kranichfeld is idyllically situated in the Ilm Valley south of Weimar and is framed by two castles. The medieval spectacle at Niederburg has been attracting medieval enthusiasts from all over Thuringia and beyond for years.
The dragon Fangdorn and the jousting tournament
The centrepiece of the spectacle is the almost life-size dragon Fangdorn, which is almost four metres tall, roars bloodcurdlingly and performs impressive fire-breathing tricks. Fangdorn appears three times a day at 12 noon, 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. in the show "The Treasure of the Elves". In addition, knights compete in authentic tournaments with jousting and ring tilting. Bands such as Dulcimerfolk, jugglers and minstrels provide entertainment between the stands.
Opening hours and admission
The spectacle is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Monday until 7 p.m. Admission: Family ticket A (2 adults + all children) 35 euros, family ticket B (1 adult + all children) 20 euros, adults 15 euros, medieval costumes 9.50 euros.

Niederburg Kranichfeld is located at Schlossgasse 18, 99448 Kranichfeld, Thuringia. It can be reached via the B87 and L1052, with parking spaces available in the vicinity of the castle.
