About Spectaculum in Friesach
One of Austria’s most beautiful medieval festivals in the town of the Crusaders
On 25 and 26 July 2026, the Carinthian town of Friesach, known as the ‘town of the Crusaders’, will be transformed into a vibrant medieval stage during the Spectaculum zu Friesach. Friesach is considered the oldest town in Carinthia to be mentioned in historical records and impresses with its unique ensemble of town walls, moats, castle ruins and Romanesque churches – a setting that is hard to beat for a medieval festival.
The Spectaculum begins with the impressive princely procession, during which hundreds of performers in magnificent costumes parade through the historic old town. This is followed by show fights, juggling acts, a medieval market on Fürstenhofplatz featuring craftsmen and specialities, falconry and musical performances. The combination of a unique urban backdrop and top-class performances makes the Spectaculum one of the most highly regarded medieval festivals in the entire Alps-Adriatic region.
Children up to the age of 14 are admitted free of charge; adults can purchase their tickets via Ö-Ticket. The festival is open all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
