About Mauterndorf Medieval Festival
25th Anniversary of the Medieval Festival in Salzburg’s Lungau region
On 11 and 12 July 2026, the Mauterndorf Medieval Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The venue is the courtyard of Mauterndorf Castle in the Salzburg Lungau region – one of Austria’s most impressive medieval castles, with a history dating back to the 13th century and now owned by the Salzburg Provincial Government.
The anniversary festival promises a particularly rich programme: knights in magnificent armour will compete in exhibition fights, a historical procession through the town centre will open the festivities, and a large craft market invites visitors to discover the arts of blacksmithing, weaving and tanning. Musicians and jugglers will provide entertainment, whilst a spectacular fire show on Saturday evening will crown the festival. The Lungau – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve – provides a breathtaking Alpine landscape as a backdrop.
Current admission prices are available on the official website. The event takes place whatever the weather.
