About Steinfurt-Ting
Steinfurt-Ting in Herbstein 2026
The Steinfurt-Ting will take place from 11 to 13 September 2026 in 36358 Steinfurt, a district of Herbstein in the Vogelsberg region; the venue’s address is Schwarzastraße 8. The Ting is a Viking and Early Medieval gathering which, according to its own description, recreates life as it was around 1,000 years ago.
Across a market area of 7,000 square metres, over 40 craftspeople will be selling their wares and demonstrating their work, including woodwork, textiles and jewellery. In a camp area covering around 16,000 square metres, visitors can gain an insight into camp life with tents, fire pits, smithies, weaving and the preparation of meals according to old recipes.
Daily battles take place on the tournament ground. In the Holmgang, the clans compete against one another over three days to determine the new Jarl of Steinfurt. Once a day, a large Huscarl battle takes place within the shield wall, in which, according to the organisers, over 150 fighters take part. There is also a Ting-platz for gatherings and storytelling, as well as a sacrificial site. In 2026, the groups Daj Ognia and Maruna will provide musical accompaniment for the Ting; a horse show is also planned, with the acts to be announced, according to the organisers.
