Medieval Market in Fürstenfeldbruck – A Grand Spectacle at the Monastery
The Medieval Market in Fürstenfeldbruck takes place over the weekend of 21–23 August. This event is part of the established MPS network (not to be confused with the travelling Spektakulum) and is held on the grounds of the historic Fürstenfeld Monastery – a stunning setting in Bavaria.
Fürstenfeld Abbey was founded in 1263 and is one of Bavaria’s most magnificent monastic complexes. The Baroque basilica, the abbey gardens, the outbuildings – everything exudes history. The Medieval Market makes use of this authentic setting to immerse visitors in a genuine historical atmosphere.
Opening hours are visitor-friendly: Friday 5 pm–midnight, Saturday 11 am–midnight, Sunday 11 am–7 pm. Those who come on Friday for the after-work session will already find the full range of attractions. Those who can stay on Saturday will enjoy the longest programme, including a night-time show (probably).
Admission prices are tiered by day and age: children under 7 go free, adults/guests aged 15 and over pay between €13 (Fri) and €15 (Sat/Sun), and children aged 7–14 pay between €6 (Fri) and €7 (Sat/Sun). Costumed visitors pay less (€11–13), families benefit from package prices (€29–33). This structure is smart and fair.
The programme includes: a large medieval market with over 150 stalls, a jousting tournament with horses and lances, live music and theatre on several stages, craft demonstrations, food and drink in abundance, possibly a fire show and night-time dancing.
Visitor tip: Saturday is the main day with the full programme – if you have the time, make sure to go then. Friday and Sunday are more relaxed, but still well worth a visit.
Food and drink: A wide range of medieval dishes and modern fare. Prices are on the higher side for an event, but the quality justifies it.
Getting there: Fürstenfeldbruck is located about 30 km west of Munich and is very easily accessible by car or train.
Verdict: A well-established market set against a historic backdrop with a wide range of attractions. Highly recommended.
