Medieval Spectacle in Fürstenfeldbruck – Late Summer Spectacle at the Monastery
Over the weekend of 28–30 August, the spectacle returns to Fürstenfeld Abbey: the Medieval Spectacle (not to be confused with the Medieval Market, which took place there earlier in August). This is a major festival with a packed programme.
Fürstenfeld Abbey continues to provide the breathtaking backdrop: over 750 years of history, a Baroque basilica, abbey gardens and authentic architecture. The grounds are large enough to host several events in the same summer – which is actually an advantage for visitors, who can attend multiple events.
The Medieval Spectacle in August is the larger event (featuring a night-time show), whilst the second one at the end of August is slightly more off the beaten track, but no less worthwhile. It allows regular visitors to experience two different facets.
Opening hours: Friday 17:00–24:00, Saturday 11:00–24:00, Sunday 11:00–19:00. These are identical to the first event – generous and flexible.
Admission prices: The same tiered pricing as for the first market (€13–15 for adults depending on the day, cheaper for children, cheaper for those in costume, family packages). This is transparent and fair.
The programme: Medieval market with over 150 stalls, jousting tournament with real horses and lances, live music and theatre, craft demonstrations, food and drink, possibly a fire show.
Visitor tip: If you can attend both dates, you can often save money with combination tickets (please check the website). Each event has its own unique atmosphere – the first is larger and better known, the second is a bit more special.
Food and drink: The range on offer is just as extensive as at the first market. The exhibitors are often similar, but there are also some new additions.
Getting there: Fürstenfeldbruck remains easily accessible (30 km west of Munich).
Verdict: Two versions of the same fantastic venue – perfect for regulars and anyone wishing to attend multiple events.
