From 1 to 3 May 2026, Herrenbreitungen Castle in Breitungen/Werra, Thuringia, will open its gates for a major medieval market. The historic castle complex at Schloss 3 is idyllically situated in the Werra Valley and offers three days of medieval market bustle.
Herrenbreitungen Castle
The former Benedictine monastery and later Herrenbreitungen Castle looks back on over 900 years of history. The complex on the banks of the Werra combines Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture and provides an authentic backdrop for the medieval market.
Programme and attractions
Numerous traders and craftsmen showcase their skills on the castle grounds. Re-enactments, medieval music, juggling and fire shows provide entertainment. Handcrafted goods, jewellery and herbal products entice visitors at the market stalls. Hearty food and mead are on offer to satisfy your appetite.
Opening hours and admission
The medieval market is open on Friday and Saturday from 12 noon to 10 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm. Admission: Adults €10, children aged 6–14 and those in costume €5.
