About Medieval Easter Market Goch-Asperden
Medieval Easter Market at Graefenthal Monastery in Goch 2026 – A journey through time in the Lower Rhine region of North Rhine-Westphalia
Between the ring walls, dovecote and Gothic cloister, the mysteries of times gone by come to life: from 4 to 6 April 2026, Graefenthal Monastery in Goch-Asperden, North Rhine-Westphalia, invites you to its popular Medieval Easter Market – one of the highlights in the Lower Rhine events calendar.
A charming historical location
Founded in 1248 by Count Otto II of Geldern, the former Cistercian convent is picturesquely situated in the Niers valley between Asperden and Kessel. Once a place for nuns of noble birth, the monastery complex now serves as a versatile event location. The historic architecture with its cloister and Gothic vaulted ceiling provides the perfect backdrop for medieval activities.
Crafts, music and hands-on activities
Visitors can experience craft demonstrations such as leatherworking, jewellery making, blacksmithing, chain mail production, wool dyeing, bread baking and bow making. Knight fights, juggling and travelling minstrels from different countries provide entertainment. Those who want to get involved themselves can learn the basics of archery and sword fighting. Suckling pig, stews and the monastery café are available for refreshments.
