About Vikings Xanten
Vikings in Xanten 2026
The Viking Xanten Festival will take place on 19 and 20 September 2026 in Xanten, North Rhine-Westphalia. This event focuses on the culture, history and traditions of the Vikings and offers an alternative to traditional medieval markets.
Xanten is a historic town on the Lower Rhine with a significant Roman history. The venue is located at Meerend 2 and uses the town’s historic atmosphere as a backdrop for the Viking spectacle.
Viking events differ from traditional medieval markets in their focus on Scandinavian cultures, Nordic craft techniques and Viking traditions. Visitors can look forward to authentic weapon and armour smiths, traditional boat-building techniques, Nordic music and Viking cuisine.
The event offers the chance to learn more about the history of the Vikings, who travelled from Scandinavian countries to settle across large parts of Europe during the Early and High Middle Ages.
The programme typically includes craft demonstrations, martial arts performances and culinary delights based on Nordic recipes. Many visitors turn up in Viking clothing and armour.
Detailed information on opening times and admission prices can be found on the website sündenfrei.tv, where further events in this series are also listed. The town of Xanten is easily accessible via the A57, and parking is available near the event site.
