About preHistoric Village - Vikingfest
preHistorisch Dorp - Vikingfest
From 23 to 25 May, the Prehistoric Village in Eindhoven will be transformed into an authentic Viking village where visitors can experience the trade, warfare and daily life of the Viking Age. This festival offers an insight into life long before the Middle Ages.
The Vikings were adventurous seafarers, but also sophisticated traders and craftsmen. Vikingfest showcases this versatility through reconstructions of shipbuilding, trade routes and domestic tasks alongside military activities.
Every summer at Boutenslaan 161B in Eindhoven, PreHistorisch Dorp sets up historical reconstructions that visitors can walk through. During Vikingfest, these buildings are populated by actors who portray daily life. Craftsmen demonstrate skills such as woodworking, weaving and metallurgy.
The atmosphere is characterised by music, storytelling and hands-on demonstrations. Visitors can try their hand at crafts or learn more about the navigation techniques that took the Vikings to Greenland, America and the Mediterranean.
The play area also offers activities specially designed for children, so the whole family can enjoy the event. Traditional food based on archaeological findings completes the Vikingfest experience.
