Giostra della Quintana in Foligno – The Challenge: 800 participants in Baroque costume
On 12 and 13 June 2026, Foligno (Perugia, Umbria) comes alive for La Sfida della Giostra della Quintana. On Friday 12 June at 9.00 pm, the ten districts, dressed in 17th-century costume, will parade in a magnificent Baroque procession featuring 800 participants; on Saturday 13 June at 9.00 pm, the equestrian joust will take place in the Campo de li Giochi.
Ten horsemen, one per district, will gallop towards the statue of Quintana, attempting to thread their lances through the ring—a feat of skill and speed requiring months of training. The event has its roots in the Baroque tradition of the 17th century: costumes strictly in silk and velvet, flag-wavers, musicians and pages accompany each district on its triumphal entry.
