About 50th Sehusa Festival
50th Sehusafest in Seesen 2026
From 4 to 6 September 2026, the 50th Sehusafest will take place in Seesen, organised by the Historienfestverein zu Seesen e.V. Since 1975, the citizens of Seesen have been re-enacting the history of their town, which dates back over 1,000 years, on the first weekend in September. The name derives from the former name Sehuson and Sehusa Castle. Over 1,000 participants, dressed in historical costume, re-enact scenes from the town’s history, spanning a period from the Middle Ages to the Rococo era.
A Renaissance-themed historical market takes place in the castle grounds, showcasing crafts and handmade goods. A food and drink area offers food and beverages. Throughout the day, music groups perform on several stages, playing traditional music on medieval instruments.
The programme includes a re-enactment of the Thirty Years’ War featuring musketeers, pikemen and gunners, depicting the Battle of Lutter am Barenberge. The Schutten besiege the Schlewecker Gate and deploy a trebuchet; alongside this, there are sword fights by the Sehusa Knights. Camps from the Middle Ages and the Thirty Years’ War showcase life as it was back then. For children, there will be a puppet theatre, axe throwing, storytellers and historical games. The play ‘Die Sage vom Silberhohl’ will also be performed.
