About Guild market Bad Wimpfen

Bad Wimpfen Guild Market – Guilds and Alleys in the Spa Town

On 29 and 30 August, everything revolves around medieval guilds and crafts: the Guild Market in Bad Wimpfen. This town is already a quintessential medieval setting – narrow, winding alleys, historic half-timbered houses, towers and walls dating from the 13th century. The Guild Market further enhances this atmosphere.

Bad Wimpfen lies on the River Neckar in Baden-Württemberg, about 30 km north of Heilbronn. Even without the event, the old town is well worth a visit: the castle quarter, the salt tower, the old city walls. The market makes the most of these streets and squares.

The concept behind the Guild Market is fascinating: guilds were the medieval professional associations – craftsmen organised themselves within them and controlled quality, prices and guild examinations. The market brings this system to life: guilds showcase their crafts, there are guild plays and guild initiations, and historical knowledge is shared.

Opening hours: Saturday 10:00–20:00, Sunday 11:00–18:00. This is visitor-friendly and allows for both morning visits and afternoon strolls.

Admission prices: Adults €9, teenagers (14–18 years) and those in costume €6, children under 13 free, families (2 adults, 2 teenagers) €27. This is fair and family-friendly. Those who come in costume also save money.

What to experience: Guild presentations in historical dress and featuring authentic crafts (blacksmith, tailor, dyer, leatherworker), guild theatre and processions, a medieval market, guild-style food and drink, and possibly music.

Visitor tip: A perfect combination of exploring the town and the event – the old town itself is well worth a visit. If you don’t have a costume, you can buy or hire one.

Food and drink: Traditional guild food and drink available at several stalls.

Getting there: Bad Wimpfen is accessible by car or train, about 1 hour north of Stuttgart.

Verdict: A unique focus on guilds and craftsmanship in a genuine medieval town. Highly recommended.
