About Experience the Middle Ages - Gloggnitz Castle
Knights, exhibition fights and jugglers at Gloggnitz Castle
On 11 and 12 April 2026, Gloggnitz Castle in Lower Austria will open its doors for the Gloggnitz Castle Medieval Festival. The castle, which dates back to a 12th-century Benedictine provostry and is located in one of the most picturesque spots at the foot of the Semmering, provides the ideal setting for an atmospheric spring awakening in the spirit of the Middle Ages.
The two-day programme offers everything that makes an authentic medieval festival: camp life of medieval groups with authentic equipment and tents, show fights in full armour, historical music with bagpipes, lutes and drums, as well as a rousing fire show in the evening. Craftsmen demonstrate their skills in open workshops: blacksmiths, bow makers and tanners give visitors a first-hand experience of how people worked in the Middle Ages. There are special hands-on programmes for children.
Admission is free; fees may be charged for individual demonstrations. Open Saturday from 11:00 to 19:30 and Sunday from 11:00 to 18:00.
