About Neunkirchen Spectaculum
Neunkirchen Spectaculum
Spring in Lower Austria: The Neunkirchen Spectaculum takes place from 27 to 29 March 2026. Neunkirchen is a town with an industrial past – steelworks and mining have shaped its history – but culture and events are equally important today. The Spectaculum is one of the highlights of the year in the regional cultural calendar.
Spectaculum is a Latin word for spectacle, and that is exactly what the event promises: a grand public spectacle featuring music, theatre and battle scenes. In Neunkirchen, Lower Austria (2620), hundreds of performers gather to celebrate a grand medieval festival.
The event attracts re-enactors from all over Austria, Germany and Eastern Europe. The standard is high – these are people who have been doing this for years, who sharpen their own armour, who know their lines, who know how to bring history to life.
On the programme: jousting, magic shows, musical performances, acrobatics. There are craft stalls where leather is worked and metal forged. There are taverns serving mead and beer, and a bread bakery where you can watch the process. Children can have their faces painted and learn how to handle a sword and shield (in a playful way).
Neunkirchen is surrounded by the Vienna Woods and lies close to Vienna. If you’re looking for a medieval weekend and don’t want to travel far, this is the perfect place. There are hotels in the town, and public transport links are well developed.
