This chainmail aventail consists of 2 types of rings. One row was made from riveted (round rivet heads) rings, the next from punched flat rings.
Also in the Middle Ages, chain skirts, chain shirts, etc. were made in this way, because it was not so time-consuming and still is.
This made it possible, then as now, to use rings made of steel with a thickness of only 1mm without losing their strength. Through this a weight reduction of 30-35% is achieved.

In the Middle Ages, chainmail aventail were attached to helmets such as nose helmets or, above all, to late medieval pelvic hoods. They were worn as additional neck and shoulder protection.

The brim was made of thick cowhide, which was sewn to the chain mail. The fastening holes for the helmet must be made by the customer himself.
