The Cold Steel® Espada® is inspired by the classic Spanish Navaja knives, but is extremely modern in terms of design and materials. The mega pocket knives immediately caused a sensation!

The Espada®series is the result of a collaboration between knifemaker Andrew Demko and Cold Steels® president Lynn C. Thompson. This collection is the perfect fusion of Demko's ingenious technical talent and Thompson's extensive knowledge of bladed weapons and tools. Despite their stately size, these huge, highly efficient folding knives remain remarkably easy to carry. They're expertly designed to fit comfortably in your pocket, and you'll soon forget you're carrying such a large, imposing blade at all. Thanks to Demko's patented thumb disc, the Espada® can be opened right when you pull it out of your pocket at the hem of your pocket, ready for use in no time!

The blade steel of the Large Espada® was deliberately selected: The cutting edge can be ground extremely fine, yet keeps particularly long sharp. The knife also has masterfully polished handle scales made of G-10. Kropffläche and frame of 7075 aluminum were also polished to a high gloss.

To protect against the sharp blade, each Espada® is equipped with Cold Steels® patented Tri-Ad® locking mechanism. This locking mechanism has proven to be amazingly shock resistant and solid. It is virtually impossible for the blade to close in your hand. In Cold Steel® s famous hardness and load tests, the XL Espada® was able to withstand not only a free hanging weight of 600 lbs (272 kg) but also a hanging engine block with no problem!

2018 model - The Espada® Large with S35VN steel blade replaces the discontinued previous model made of CTS® XHP (part no. CST-62NCL).

CPM S35VN steel
This is an extraordinary American super steel. CPM S35VN is not only extremely tough and durable, but also grinds very well to razor sharpness and holds that sharpness for a long time. With its uniform microstructure, this very fine-grained powder steel offers consistent, good properties: durable, reliable, highly resistant to corrosion, tough and hard even with thinly ground edges. A good, versatile steel for top quality knives and tools.
