With the SCHNITZEL DU (two) Schnitzel Germany expands its range. This model is designed for use by older children or teenagers between 10 and 18 years. But also adults will have their pleasure with the DU, since blade and handle length have grown. Unlike the Schnitzel UNU, the DU has a real point. The blade also features a classic, versatile Scandi grind (without a second cutting bevel) typical of knives from the Scandinavian region. This knife with full tang construction is sharpened because less pressure during carving minimizes the risk of injury.

Note:
Due to the classic Scandi grind, we recommend that hard work such as batoning thick branches is better done with an axe or hatchet.

To prevent the thumb from slipping off while working, an effective jimping has been added to the back of the blade. Behind the jimping is a small recess that allows a firesteel to be used effectively, as in this area the back of the blade is sharper than on the rest of the back of the knife.

The blade itself is formed from sturdy, stainless, high-quality Sandvik 14C28N Swedish steel and ends in a slight drop point. The blade thickness does not taper on the DU, but has a constant robust 3.1 mm Swedish steel. To further counteract any corrosion of the steel during harder use, this outdoor knife has a matte anti-corrosion finish on the surface, which further enhances the durability and also gives the knife an attractive appearance.

Non-slip, durable and contoured G-10 handle scales provide a secure grip and a finger guard prevents the index finger from slipping on the cutting edge. The screw ferrules (inner diameter 3 mm) matching the matte blade finish allow easy disassembly for maintenance of the knife. Complementary paracord lanyard can be attached as desired as a handle loop.

Last but not least is to mention the accompanying robust and almost everything forgiving Kydex sheath. Wetness, mud and cold can not harm her. Fitting like a second skin, this closes around the knife and allows an absolutely safe way of carrying.
As a special feature, a firesteel with holder made of Kydex is attached to the Kydex sheath, which is held securely by an elastic band that is color-coordinated with the handle (even after wear). The firesteel is easily ignited at the recess in the back of the blade.

Clear rules when carving with children:
Since a knife, is a sharp object, clear rules should be established from the beginning. While our products are perfectly designed for small hands, certain safety precautions should still be followed:
1.) Always carve sitting down, because it is true: Who carves, who sits!
2.) The correct body posture when carving: For a secure hold, the feet rest firmly on the floor when sitting with the legs wide apart. The upper body is slightly bent forward and the arms rest on the thighs.
3.) When carving, always keep two arm lengths (about one meter) safe distance from other people.
4.) Carving with a sharpened blade minimizes the risk of injury because less pressure must be applied.
5.) The carving motion should always be away from the body.
6.) After carving, the blade is safely stowed in the sheath.
7.) The bark of living trees is taboo.

Generally, carving should always be supervised by an adult. In addition, the role model function of parents also applies here: Who does not conscientiously exemplify the rules, runs the risk that the child also does not adhere to the safety precautions.
